Q: 1979 camaro!?
can i put any different year seats on my 1979 camaro!? and also does anyone know where i can find cheap seats for my camaro!? thanx!
A: The 1979 basically is the same body style they used from about 1974 to about 1981 so any camaro, firebird or trans am seats you find of that vintage will fit. You may be able to find some used seats locally to you on craigslist.org or if you are really lucky your local salvage yard. You may also have luck at a local car show/swap meet that is going on in your area, it usually isn’t much for admission ( TIP: if they don’t list that they are having a swap more than likely they are not)
Q: 1979 Camaro?
I have a friend who has a 1979 Camaro Berlinetta. He has been looking all over for a new front nose piece for it because his was broken, but hes had no luck. Does anyone know where you can find these or any other restoration parts for these cars?
A: that is a very rare car. there probably not too many of the nose’s laying around and not too many that are restored. he could take it to a machine shop and see if they can mend the damage.
Q: 1979 camaro?
Well i am a student i currently bough a 1979 camaro as a project, i staarted sanding it and trying to fix up some things the body is solid and there is no visible rust, but know i need to sell it because i lost my job and am pretty much broke it has a 350 engine and it wont pass smog it runs awsome but the only problem it has other than the smog is that it pulls to the right alot i tried to get it aligned and they said they couldnt cuz it had a problem not sure what it is, well if anybody wants to help me aout and steal this beauty from me please email me. im trying to get $900 for it thank you.
i live in napa valley california
A: i want it but u should throw i on ebay with a new coat of paint and good interior for about $3000
Q: 1979 Camaro?
I have a 1979 Z28 I have to sell to pay off my X wife for divorcing me. I not sure why I have to pay her but thats no fault for you. What is the best way to sell this car nationally. Of course whoever buys it has to pick it up. Can’t ship it. Ebay? Or other means.
A: It is a Chev Camaro so it does not have a hemmi. A hemmi motor is a Dodge product. I have sever show cars and when I am bored with them I usually take them to the RM Classic Spring car show in Toronto or find another collector who will appreciate what the car is and what the car is worth. e_mail me. I do not like X wives like that. I respect my hubby’s hobby and would under no circumstances would I ever force him to sell his cars. He put too much blood sweat and tears into them. That is just plain rotten and hatefull. You should be glad she is gone.
Q: what would it cost to completely redo a 1979 Camaro?
Here goes, Im not looking for a pointless response, so dont supply one. I am thinking about purchasing a used (a little rough shape) 1979 Camaro 5L 305 turbo, with a 350 tranny. I am interested in a rough estimate to fix it up to a high quality, I am not worried about interior, or exterior, simply engine/mechanical parts, Any thoughts, ideas, or estimates based on experience are much appreciated.
A: if the engine is not completely destroyed and you do it yourself about $2000
Q: What was the stock differential on a 1979 Camaro Z28?
I have a friend that I am helping him build a 1979 Camaro Z28 after he saw my 1981 he fell in love with it and wanted one for himself. I told him the Z28 that he has does not have the stock diff since its a 8.2 ten bolt. I told him its a 8.5 ten bolt. He thinks i’m wrong can someone help us clear this up.
A: Your right, 8.5″ 10 bolt.
IIRC 1970 the baseline camaro had a 8.2″ 10 bolt and SS and Z28 got the 12 bolt.
Then 71-81 all camaros and firebirds used the GM corporate 8.5″ 10 bolt
82-85 used 7.5″ 10 bolt
86-02 used 7.625″ 10 bolt
So if he has an 8.2″ under his, I’m guessing somebody pulled one from a ‘70 camaro and installed it
Q: can my 1979 camaro use a computer diagnostic tool?
I am sixteen years old and just baught my first car. I have a 1979 camaro z28 that i love, but it has a lot of problems that i wasn’t aware of until i baught the car. I know a lot about cars for a teen, but im no machanic I am interested in buying a diagnostic tool so i can catch some problems befor they do some serious, costly damage. I’m not sure if i can use a tool like this because of the primitive computer unit in the car. any answers?
A: Primitive computer…lol…what computer? A diagnostic tool will do you no good with that vehicle.
Q: Recently bought 1979 camaro with plug wire off distributor cap?
recently bought 1979 camaro with plug wire off distributor cap. I could hear it ticking at idle and saw one of the wires off the cap. Is the seller trying to hide something wrong with the engine by pulling it or is it probably just a mistake.
A: It could have just fallen off. Hook it up & see what happens.
Q: Looking for the times for a 1979 Camaro?
I was curious what the 0-60, quarter mile, and mile times were..and what what speeds the quarter mile and mile times…
I would appreciate whatever info I get,
Its a 1979 Camaro with the stock 305 and automatic transmission.
If you need more info just ask I can provide more specific information.
A: What type of exhaust do you have? Do you have headers, stock manifold what? Or you running stock 2 barrel carburation or do you have a 4 barrel? Also what kind of rear end do you have a 12 bolt or a 10 bolt what gear ratio do you have? All of these things apply even if it is completely stock you may have a different gear ratio than a completely stock Camaro of the same year. But the best way to find out what times it runs is to take it to the track and run it to find out what times you have. And run it yourself so you know exactly what the car will do with you driving it.
Q: What can i do to make my 1979 camaro faster?
I own a 79 berlinetta camaro that i got recently. it has i rebuilt 350 engine in it. i have two flowmasters and it runs really good. It’s a pretty fast car already but i have a need for more speed. so anyone have any good advice to make it faster?
A: Well you really didn’t give enough specs on your car/engine so we would know whats already been done..
One of the 1st thing IMHO would be a gear ratio change. Your car came with a 2.41 or 3.08 rear gear.. For performance use a 3.42 or 3.73 would be much better
You said you have dual exhaust, well does it have exhaust manifolds or headers? If manifolds replace them with a set of headers (15-30 hp gain)
Whats your intake, stock iron? If so replace it with something like an edelbrock performer RPM dual plane alum intake and a good 600 cfm 4 bbl carb
A cheap little trick is to re curve your dist. Buy a re curve kit (weights and springs, about $5) take dist cap and rotor button off.. You’ll see the weights and springs once you remove button.. Install one of the “light” and 1 “med” spring from your kit in place of the OEM ones.. This will bring your total timing in alot sooner (around 3,000-3300 rpm) stock, it don’t fully advance untill 4500 + rpm
Do a tune up.. New AC delco spark plugs, good plug wires like msd, moroso, etc, new cap and rotor, new fuel filter.
K&N air filter,
Then your gonna have to start looking inside the engine for any gains.. More compression, better flowing heads, bigger cam, etc.
Q: Is a 1979 camaro good for a first car?
Im currently 15 years old and im going to be 16 in november and i really want a 79 camaro for my first car. Is that wierd or should i get a newer and safer car?
A: It depends on the car. If it was well maintained and relatively rust free, and you live in an area that doesn’t get that much snow, then I’d say its a very good car. Realize, though, that the mileage isn’t exactly that good (expect 18/21 mpg if you are gentle with the pedal).
The steering on a second gen Camaro is a bit numb compared to a new car – there’s no “on center”, and its over-boosted, making it a little less communicative. The brakes are also going to feel a little mushy compared to a newer car – the power brakes are good, but there’s obviously no ABS, and lockup can come on quickly if you don’t pay attention.
Also, even with good previous maintenance, you will likely see some more issues regarding regular repair/maintenance – items that are regular problems on the 79 are nagging ones like choke and carburetor adjustments, EGR valve problems, and the eventual problems with the A/C (unless the system has been gone through, rebuilt, and retrofitted with R134.
On the flip side, they’re fine looking cars (I may be jaded on this!), and as you progress with it, they’re easy to do performance mods to.
Q: i have a 1979 camaro and i need a few parts?
My 1979 camaro i bought it was in pretty bad condition and i need pretty much everything for interior all windows and perhaps a few engine problems. and i need a website that offers cheap camaro parts. so far all ive found is really exspensive stuff so im hoping i can find something cheaper.
A: I have a good site – the 79-81’s seem to be rather under-supported considering the amount of sales on them!
Try Camaro Central (the link is below). They have good amount of stuff for the late second gen, and the prices seem reasonable.
Q: What causes resistance that causes arching on a ignition coil (1979 Camaro)?
79 camaro, bought new plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, ignition module and coil, but i have aching problems that come outta the ignition coil housing into the white center wire. i am thinking it’s a resistance problem but don’t know what can be causing the resistance….help please
or any other suggestions on why it would be arching?
A: its cracked/repl
Q: How much horsepowere is stock on a 1979 Camaro?
As far as i kno its not a berlinetta or z28. If they made ss or rs its not one of them either. 350 4bl
A: disp carb HP Torque C/R
305 2bbl Roch 130@3200 245@2000 8.4
350 4bbl Roch 170@3800 270@2400 8.2
Q: What parts should i get for my chevrolet 1979 camaro z28?
im going to renew it and i want to know what parts i should get and about how much it would cost. give me some tips
well im looking to restore it. i want to put the best parts in and as for price i will do this slowly so that doesnt exactly matter just tell me what parts would be great
A: get rid of that engine for starters.. the 79 is a beautiful car.. but lets face it, it was the most produced camaro to date and isn’t going to be worth much as a collector ever.. so i would go ahead and start from the ground up.. suspension.. driveline.. and a coat of paint that makes it different from the other late 70s early 80s camaros.. but as for a suggestion on the engine.. drop a 427ci LS3.. these motors are SICK
